If you're not actively practicing how to fight or haven't spent years practicing how to fight then you don't actually know how to fight. I'm extremely out of practice, not athletic at all, and even when I did martial arts, I didn't really like hitting people, let alone getting hit. As someone who used to have a little skill before I hung it up due to durability issues, I can tell you that grappling someone with no serious grappling experience was like wrestling a newborn fawn.
