I mean, I'm American, but my family is also German, Italian, Norwegian, and Irish. And that's the edge we Americans have: we contain many cultures that do know how to cook.
Of course, my family is *also* full of passionate cooks, of which I'm one. The spice cabinet has been full of herbs and spices for as long as I can remember, and I and everyone else knows how to use them.

One think I miss about the UK is good quality baked beans being easy to find. We used to heat them up in the pan and add all sorts of spices

Having spent some time in the US, I saw nothing to indicate that this was the case.

Baked Beans (from Britain) are great.

Simple as piss to make, quick to cook and have a great catch phrase to go with them.

Definitely not the best food we have, and plenty of other shit food from the UK to justifiably mock us for though.

Yeah, genuine maple syrup is actually really good.

And pancakes are one of those things that are highly modular. If they suck, it's because you did something wrong, IMO.

America is a smorgasbord of other cultures foods, and mixes between them.

UK is the same, but the decided long ago to say fuck it and stick to the basics.

I feel the difference here is more nuanced than something like a Tavern or a Sports bar. A pub and a bar are roughly the same thing. But I'd never call a sports bar a pub or a Tavern a bar.

I would say a tavern implies there may be rooms available as well (in the more archaic form of the word), but otherwise, yeah they're all the same thing. You may feel they're different because they are different words and that's how subjectivity works--everyone has the words they personally like based usually on their locality to describe stuff
