im pretty sure hercules was on the boat with jason. im fairly certain the illiad was filled with a variety of heroes.

He was. There was a whole scene where all the other heroes voted Jason to lead the expedition. In some versions Theseus is there too.

Yeah the argonauts were definitely that. Herakles, Orpheus and Theseus were all there iirc.

All of the major characters from the Iliad were from preexisting regional folk tales, and the Iliad itself, apart from being a "historical" document, was probably told as a means of unifying the various Greek cities, by depicting their kings fighting alongside one another.

And the Iliad is only the most famous one. Many Greek plays featured crossovers.
