A) Irrelevant and subjective. Luxury isn't necessary for survival.

B) $16 an hour is $2560 a month. If you can't pay for rent, utilities, food and necessities (read: not alcohol, not drugs, not fast food, not new phones, not new TVs, not new video game consoles, not frivolous expenses) then you are the one with the problem, not your paycheck. Even if we figure rent at $1500 (it's not even close to this much anywhere outside of cities) and utilities at $300, that still leaves you with $760 for everything else, which is more than enough to live on with extra.

Was gonna say this. Dude clearly has no idea how income even works, and didnt even factor in debt at all. Some peoples student loan bills are $760 a month alone.

Did she say somewhere that she has massive student loan debt despite making $16/hr, where she lives, anything like that or is everyone just making things up to fit the narrative they prefer?

or maybe people are talking about more than just this one person who makes $16/hour. Plenty of different circumstances out there with people.

that shitty analysis didnt even factor in having a kid/someone else to support, which is the case for millions and millions of people who struggle to get by.

I'm not saying it's 100%, but week old account with a single post doesn't have much credibility at all. That subreddit also has a history of people making up fake stories to farm karma.

I dont fail to realize how hard life can be, I just do realize that you are assuming hardships that you dont actually know exist. There are a lot of places where around two grand a month is a very comfortable amount and somebody would have to be reckless to not be able to afford basics. There is no reason to assume one situation over the other except which one you want to be true.

like I said earlier in this thread, it doesnt really matter if the story is true in this exact case. The fact that many people want to help out on blind faith like that is awesome to see IMO. Especially considering the OP didnt ask for any donations or anything like that.

Sad and all, but if shes making that amount and lives with room mates, Id really like to take a look at her finances to see whats up.

The person who set up the wishlist could easily be an alt, and it could've simply been intended as a karma farm. I don't know why you think blind faith is so inspiring. It's really just gullibility and lack of critical thinking.

If you really want to help a cause, you can do some research on some legitimate charities, and donate to the cause there.

When I lived by myself I made a little less than that, and I paid rent, utilities, car insurance, and internet and I didn't have to steal from anyone to afford basic things.

If she lives with 2 roommates, like damn how high is their rent? How much state tax is being taken from her check?

If she moved tf out of NYC or California then she'd be a lot more comfortable. I understand it isn't that easy to just up and move but if I were her I'd be looking for a job somewhere else before I'd resort to stealing and panhandling on Reddit.
