It's easy for educated people to look at the divide and paint Republicans as invariably voting that way for nefarious purposes. It's also rewarding because it allows people to see themselves as superior to those unwashed devils who hate science and minorities. But the truth of the matter is that many of them are misled for one reason or another. If you've been led to believe the Republicans are the good guys, you're not going to believe anything Democrats have to say anyway. If you think that "the liberal media" runs everything, your more susceptible to disinformation because the people who are fighting back against liberal lies must be telling the truth. Right? Even barring politics, people who work labor-intensive jobs often find consolation in the invalidation of "book smarts." If they admit we're right, it may mean admitting to themselves that an education is preferable to "know how" or "experience." Resentment over working one of these kinds of jobs is also the origin of much of the resentment toward things like loan forgiveness or free college. If you're working a factory because you couldn't afford college, you probably don't want to see everyone else going for free. Ignorant or uneducated people who are LGBTQ, female, or a member of an ethnic minority group will have the same vices as ignorant or uneducated heterosexual White males and will vote the same way that they do.
