It might be too early to say it was one of my favorite gaming experiences, but its definitely up there. That twist was fucking brilliant. And the atmosphere was legit scary without relying on cheap jump scares.

How do the sequels compare? Ive heard good things about Infinite.

Bioshock 2 is worth playing imo if you like 1's gameplay. Infinite can go die in a fire.

Yeah, a great atmosphere wasted by some weird narrative choices and a boring late game. Bulletsponge big daddies are terrible enemies.

Keep playing them and decide for yourself. Lot of people say 2 and 3 sucked but I enjoyed them all.

First Bioshock is one of my favorite games ever.

2 gets more hate than it deserves. I like it almost as much as 1.

Infinite is fun, but the delivery was far from what was promised.

1 is pretty grating on replays but Atlas/Someone else can still be fun to go back and visit every now and then.
The others suck.

Loved every second of it. It got pretty straightforward after the twist, but the game had won me over by that point.

I cant remember the last time I was so engrossed in a game without really knowing what was happening.

2 is good but it mostly feels like an expansion more than a new game. People praised Infinite when it first came out, but now a lot of people retrospectively dont like it. I loved it and would definitely still recommend.

It starts out incredibly strong and then slows down except for a couple sections where it gets really good again.

BioShock 2 is worth playing, the story is the conclusion for Rapture while diving deeper into the other areas of the city.

I hated Infinite, it was like a cheap knock off of the first game with less weapons, less powers, and I beat one boss then gave up on it. Columbia the flying city and the people are way less interesting then the people of Rapture.

BioShock 2 also had a solid MP but that is long dead now and the remasters did not include it.

infinite is bio1 only in a skycity with worse level design, but better gunplay with a better paced ending section. if you loved bio1 i dont know why you wouldnt like infinite unless you are expecting more of that darker atmosphere.

2 is "more of the same" so the presentation kinda takes a hit as the thrill of being in rapture starts to wear off. story and characters arnt as bombastic, but is more grounded and personal and is a nice companion piece to the firsts story ideals. overall gameplay has been improved and expanded on (and imo the best in the series overall). the pacing is almost the opposite of the first where in 1 the game kinda peters out after the twist where as in the sequel it just keep ratcheting up to a better finale and ending. its dlc is extremely well done and is generally considered some of the best content in the series.

It's the only first person shooter gameplay I've ever liked (I used powers more than I did guns anyway)

That's how good it is. The critical acclaim it had was well deserved. Both it and 2 are great games. That 3rd one/spin-off on the other hand was one of the weirdest garbage games I'd ever played

I think Infinite is superb...one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had and, I think, the only game I've played through twice.

Having said that, it is a love it or hate it game, but worth trying now its6 cheap.

The hate for BioShock Infinite is how unbelievable it is due to when it is set in time.

BioShock 1 and 2 were during the 40s, 50s, and 60s where the tech exaggerated but believable for that era.

BioShock Infinite was a floating flying city in the time of 1912 while the first flight of the Wright Bros was 1903 which made the setting 100% unbelievable.

Rapture was grounded in reality and believable science, Columbia was as unrealistic as it got.

The whole time travel shit was also stupid and just there to be weird/fantasy/scifi bullshit.

BioShock 1 and 2 were great games that were believable and showed twisted science gone crazy.

BioShock Infinite was just fantasy land bullshit with heavy handed religious bullshit that got annoying as fuck after 10 mins.

Thats a rather silly point considering the whole grounded in reality doesnt work for the series since we dont even have Sealab 2021 up and running let alone an underwater city where we are cultivating sea slugs for their goo to give us X-Men powers

The tech of the era in BioShock is what gave it realism.

1912 Columbia was practically the end of the wild west era and right before WW 1.

1940s and 1950s Rapture was right before WW2 era tech and in that era the tech was much more advance.

I could see a underwater city as plausible with the tech of 1940, no fucking way to have a flying city in 1912 when the first successful flying was 1903 barely a few inches off the ground.
