There was no witch. The woods are a cursed realm that warps reality, which explains why the characters kept getting lost. It sent them back in time to serial killer Rustin Parr's house.


It's what makes the most sense, IMO.

That scene where they're in the tent, hear that grunting moan thing and then the tent start getting pushed in everywhere freaked me the hell out when I was younger.
