Oh I'm aware. With twins is so fucking difficult to keep up on it. Constantly having to switch brands. Its fucked up.

Thank god for mommy groups on FB with extra formula their kids grew out of.

Yes this has been going on for some time. And then there was a big Similac recall. Two babies died due to bacterial infections from the formula. Our baby was on Similac and it was terrifying to find out. We switched to Bobbie and then phased her to whole milk when she turned one. Im so glad we dont need formula anymore. Sounds like its just getting worse.

Yeah, it's been a struggle for us too as all our shelves are empty. It's always a hunt to track down inventory.

On the subject of the Similac recall, it's important to note that it only includes the powder formula manufactured at a specific Michigan plant. The liquid formulas are unaffected.

Very fortunate that our kids are older and my wife was able to breastfeed. It'd be scary to not know where our next formula would be coming from

A lot of the shortage stems from similac having a huge recall on most, if not, all of their product. Forcing parents to run out and purchase other brands.

Coupled with the never ending supply chain issues and the turmoil in Ukraine.

Plus I am going to safely assume scalpers are an issue as well, buying up whatever inventory they can get their hands on as well as the families that will buy up the shelves out of fear they will never resupply.

Also - for those parents here that depend on formula. IF you ever needed a substitute, goat milk is very very similar to human breast milk and very nutritious. Its the next best thing.

Daigou were/are a problem here for baby formula. Most places have a 2 baby formula tins per purchase limit, and would security tag the tins.

Goat milk does not have enough folate. And some studies show it is associated with high rates of anemia.

If someone is just having a baby, just try your best to breastfeed. No worries about formula then. And unlike when I breastfed insurance companies have to pay for the breast pump.

Fenugreek can help get the flow going but I am truly afraid some crazy ass state will soon ban it. Because if you take it prior to giving birth it can cause contractions and might cause a miscarriage.

I have several friends who had babies, but chose to spend the money on formula due to convenience or because they could sleep more during the night.

My Wife, on the other hand, only produced around 25% of the typical amount of breast milk and we HAD to buy formula. I feel sorry for moms who have production issues right now. Especially if money is tight.

I was in the same boat as your wife. Unable to produce. I would pump every couple of hours and produce enough for just one bottle after a whole day. My daughter would latch great but get frustrated after a couple of minutes and just scream at me. After a month of struggling and my mental health taking a massive dive, we made the switch to formula. Many families truly depend on it.

breastfeeding isnt practical for many women. And if you have a child who is months old and has been on formula you arent able to breastfeed.

you can get supplements to add to the goat milk to increase its necessary vitamin/mineral content.

of course the goat milk suggestion was really a near last resort. Its better than a child starving and also a temporary solution.
