Apparently the guy said he was gonna release it next month and released this video as proof that he has it.

So now instead of just silently releasing it, he's gonna make a spectacle of it, attract the attention of Gearbox/whoever, and get C&D'd before anything happens.

Not gonna lie, there was a DNF (2011) trailer that used the song Stroke Me. I really liked that trailer only due to the fact that a Mickey Avalon song is actually wildly appropriate for a Duke Nukem promo.

Man, rewatching that 2001 trailer reminded me how awesome it was. It's such a shame that version never got released officially.

It's a shame the actual released game ended up being such a huge disappointment (and a bad game to boot).

The old trailer was spliced fake and real. A 3D realms employee on gearbox forums gave a breakdown from memory on which parts were which.

Just a guess...were the closeups of characters talking, moving their eyes and mouth faked? That did seem kinda advanced for the time.

I was lucky enough to find it dirt cheap in a bargain bin. Like $5 or something. That doesn't mean it makes the game any better but at least I didn't waste full price money on it.

Besides, best $5 I ever spent for a game was Metroid Prime, so that's never gonna be beaten.

The only one I can remember for sure was the guy at the end in front of the stripper aka "Gus" was 100% fake.

My wife picked up Prey (Arkane version) for $5 once. I saw it and it looked like the sort of thing youd like.

The old forums got purged it looks like so that information is gone forever.

Anyway some parts of the trailer were 100% real, most of it was composite / mixed real and fake, and only a few things were completely fake. If the game came out, there would definitely be a lot of complaining that the game didn't match the trailer.

Here's more footage of the leak, including the motorcycle section, and EDF base. It seems like most of the weapons are finished, though some of them have no audio. The Freeze Cannon does not have an icon and has unfinished animations, and the chainsaw has no audio and unfinished animations. Both of those are non-functional as a result.

Basically what happen is a guy made a mod for DN3D that was so good it upstaged everything the 3D Realms team did and the director wanted to upstage the mod just as much.

He might have been bad at managing the development of DNF, but remember when George Broussard told Take-Two (the company that was publishing his game) that "they need to Shut the fuck up"? That was pretty based.

He was one of the heads at 3D Realms and debatably the face of the company.
And yeah, it seem like part of the reason why the game went the way that it did was poor management on his part.

I remember an old topic regarding DNF that was posted here where someone was having a meltdown about him, and claiming that he was too busy eating pizza instead of developing the game. That was a random funny thought.

I watched someone play through some of the leak and they said there really isn't a *game* here per se. It's just a bunch of disjointed setpieces and test levels: some are populated with enemies, some aren't.

Keep in mind that if this actually released in 2001 it probably would have been before Halo.

I'm really excited to see what modders and fans will do with this over the years, implying it actually gets released and not intercepted by Gearbox.

Shit, that's a big chunk of footage. It's crazy how much you can see a lot of DNF (2011)'s DNA in this.

That's because they never truly purged all content. They may have deleted the solution out of their IDE but they kept the code and would copy paste from it as needed.
