This. The basic premise demands you at least suspend disbelief enough to accept that possibly the real world is a simulation or video game and would have similar "glitches"

I'm pretty sure the Zoomers were, like, single digit ages when I first heard about this.

it's just the idea that you can be lost in an eerie, unfamiliar place that by all accounts should be a regular and familiar place
but for the most part, the "liminal spaces" crowd just loves to post dark hallways and act like it's the spookiest shit ever

It makes about as much sense as any supernatural creepypasta. Just roll with it. Or don't, if you don't like fiction.

i remember the first post i saw about it was just some dude saying it's what purgatory would be like, and having been in buildings like that, i got what he meant. then it recently became like scp and creepypasta fuel

The scary part relies on the fear of the unknown.

The idea is that you enter into an area of the world that is still loading. Like when you glitch out of a video game. An area that you're not supposed to go into, for whatever reason. Like, whatever 'created' us and our world accidentally left some areas that shouldn't be accessed and someone just happened to glitch through.

It also preys on the fear of loneliness and isolation. Imagine if you were stuck inside an infinitely looping hallway(like PT). But instead of constant changes, everything just looks like a hotel hallway. No rooms, every door leads to another hallway. Infinitely repeating. Even if the geometry makes absolutely no sense.

That's what it's supposed to be anyway. It's an intriguing concept, if nothing else.

Shit. I just up looked up a wiki article about it and people have written about thousands and thousands of "levels" (trying too hard to gameify it). I though this was about the unknown? Seems pretty.... known >_>

yeah, it went from an abstract place that doesn't exist to fanfic BS where it has """entities""" (monster OCs for people to get too invested and weird about)

I thought "backrooms" was just alluding to a hidden brothel >.>
