Probably a poor choice of words on their part. But I can take a guess as to what they meant. My wife doesn't need to hear all of my thoughts, nor I hers. Sometimes you just let them be or let them do what they like without making it obvious that you personally disapprove. I can only assume that's what she actually meant by "without having your own thoughts". Not exactly "Don't think" but more like "Don't give me shit". --- Join the club.
