What should I do with this?

It looks brand new. He was old and probably never used it. But I can't even do a windows update on it or upgrade to windows 10. It's from 2009.

I was thinking donating to the Good Will for a tax write-off but they probably wouldn't want it

strip the copper, sell it
remove the screen, remove the backlight, do some tinkering, turn the screen into an always-on semi-transparent weather display you can put in your kitchen

I didn't see anything in pictures or documents. Forgot to check his browsing history before packing it back up. Judging by how pristine everything is with no keyboard wear he probably used it a couple times then forgot about it

Does Windows 7 still receive updates? Without updates it is not safe to use. Either buy Windows 10 or upgrade to Linux.

In terms of what you can do with it, the possibilities are infinite.

Apparently it doesn't receive updates. When I tried to update it gave me some error message over and over.

There was also an invitation on it to upgrade to Windows 10 but when I tried it said it expired lol

I don't need it since I already have 2 PCs so maybe I'll try to repurpose some parts per the suggestion idk

Probably but updates is the single greatest security measure you can take aside from never going online which limits what it can do so very much.

Yes, a computer is perfectly safe to use online as long as you have a virus protection program and you're not an idiot.

It isn't Windows defender features that requires updates, it is patches for known exploits. Someone could just scan your ports, search for known exploits, and apply them all with metaspoilt to gain access to your system in minutes.

You won't get much for it. I'd donate it. There's a ton of people around the world that could use a computer

First of all, almost nobody knows how to do that. Secondly, most routers these days have preventative measures against that (and 99% of people use a router). Thirdly, nobody would care enough to do that unless you're someone important. Lastly, "and you're not an idiot" means you aren't going to download and open random files that would even allow them to do that in the first place.
