Afterlife was terrific IMO. Reboot was a mess.

Does anyone here actually prefer Reboot to Afterlife?

It's not that surprising. One was presented as a movie that if you criticized it meant you were sexist and the other was given no such protection.

honestly yeah, i think i liked reboot more. 1 > 2 > 3 > 4. i like them all though.

Afterlife gave up any pretense of the franchise not being for kids.
Decent movie, but I kept feeling like I was about thirty years too old for it.

Afterlife was just sorta meh. Reboot was bad.

I completely forgot Afterlife existed. At least the 2016 movie had staying power thanks to all the people that wouldn't stop bitching about it.

It's not even a bad movie, just a superfluous and unnecessary reboot for no good reason.
The worst thing about it was the SFX "escaping" the letterboxing on the disc.

Pretty much, even with the shoddy ending it's still better than the horrible reboot.

All I ask for in a Ghostbusters sequel is that they're still friends and they've been catching ghosts between movies. Literally every sequel has failed at this.

It was pretty meh. They relied too much on all the old characters including the villains to prop the movie up instead of being more creative with it

The setup for GB5 suggests that, but it'll likely rot in development hell long enough for someone else to die.

Afterlife does still leave open space for "...and Egon was pretty much doing it himself in the 90s, with new recruits"
The "Extreme" squad is probably also pissed at Egon, anyway.

Afterlife is better than the reboot, but Afterlife was an okay of a movie in general. I got annoyed by its use of "nostalgia" with scenes basically saying, "Hey remember this from Ghostbusters 1?" "Remember when they said this or that one scene from Ghostbusters 2?" Having easter eggs is nice, but too much and it gets really self indulgent. It would've been 10 times better if it was a family movie about ghost hunting without the Ghostbusters label imo. Though I did watch it with my uncle who was a big Ghostbusters fan and he very much loved it, so I'm probably in the minority with my opinion.

I guess I can call myself guilty for enjoying those. At times i was actively looking for them during the movie; it's almost like watching for sight gags in a Naked Gun movie.
