Been running on the treadmill for the past few months since the new year with no issue. Ran outside today for the first time this spring and I'm finding my upper shoulders (close to the neck) were getting sore/tired before anything else.

Am I overusing my arms in my strides? Hasn't been an issue with the treadmill all winter.

Are you overheating?

Did you get differences in elevation and surface types on a treadmill?

Otherwise your body could be reacting to a newer form of exercise, like switching from machines to free weights.

Not that I can tell. If anything it's usually a little warm in the gym for my tastes because I always forget to crack the window. It was 51 outside with no wind so I felt about right temperature wise. Maybe it's just stiffness

Nah it's just a flat circle outside. Maybe the concrete is less forgiving than the treadmill

Treadmill running and ground running have very different mechanics.
You'll likely have an adjustment period between the two.
