Welp looks like im dropping netflix. Dont got time for ads.

As long as the current no-ads tier doesn't go up in price, I don't see a problem with having a "cheaper but with ads" option. I would still pay for no ads, but giving people more options to get them in the door is a good idea.

I'm not paying to watch ads.
I only put up with it during sports because there's long "commercial break in progress" anyway.

And so it returns to whence it came

If I end up having to pay even more again to not have ads, I just won't have a Netflix account.

To be fair, a lot of streaming services do have ads.

Hulu has ads, peacock has ads, YouTube has ads, twitch has ads. Netflix is (was) actually one of the few platforms that doesn't have an ads tier.

Everything else, though, is clearly an attempt to nickel and dime their remaining customers as much as possible since they don't have the content to bring back the people who have already left.

Introducing a tier cheaper than the current ones that also has ads is fine.

Introducing a tier more expensive than the current ones to avoid ads is not fine.

I am absolutely sure they'll opt for the latter.

Well at least it's a new plan that is lower than the current plan. That would be scummy if they made it the same price and made the premium one higher

Yeah Hulu has ads but as long as you are willing to alternate email addresses yearly the you can get on their Black Friday deal and pay only $1-2 monthly for service. Ill deal with ads for $2 a month.

Peacock has ads, but tons of people get it for free from Xfinity.

Most other streaming services have yearly plans that offer a discount. Netflix for some reason is resisting offering one. I think its about to bite them because many have found their new pricing a bit out of touch vs other options,

Free + ads is perfectly acceptable, tho. 'Member when Hulu was like that?
Pluto is also pretty decent, but it's "live" instead of on-demand.

That will never happen because all the networks and studios have gotten greedy which is why they have their own streaming service. The next step is for a service to come out that packages together the different streaming services at discounted rates like how cable works with channels

Disney Bundle already exists, and Warner and Paramount are gluing all of their scattered services together as well.

Streaming will literally never be the same as cable/satellite/whatever based solely on the fact that you have 100% control over what you watch. On those, you're at the mercy of whatever a given channel has selected for you to watch.

Peacock, Twitch, and YouTube have ads when you're not paying, which is fair

Asking customers to pay for a service, and then advertising on top of that, is scummy. AFAIK Hulu is that only place I can think of it which currently does it, and they get a lot of flack for it.

You don't need specific content. There's plenty of entertainment everywhere.

Netflix put themselves in this situation when they started greenlighting all of this original content to pay less in licensing costs, which basically led to other companies creating their own streaming services. An ad based service isn't going to benefit the consumer, and they're still going to release like 30 bad original shows for every good show.

The He-Man cartoon would have been pretty great if the whole thing released at once. As-is, it was split in half right at the worst part.
