Yeah if you're going bottom of the barrel cheap, I don't think anything beats those frozen burritos.

It's absolutely garbage food though lol

You completely missed the point of my post by taking it too literal. I make cheap meals at home myself. Im not saying you're wrong. Im just saying I wasn't saying you absolutely couldn't make cheap meals. Im not trying to make a breakdown, I was using an average. You gotta give the benefit of the doubt that people at leadyt have the minimum amount of intelligence when you're talking to them >_>. I know beans, rice and chicken exist lol. You're responding to me like that in a topic claiming that eating out is cheaper than eating at home. Give me some liberties to also not be completely literal lol

Btw, chicken did just go up by 25% a pound at Kroger tho. Over the last like 2 months. It jumped by 20 one week and then by 30 again like a week or 2 later.

adding to this - getting a meat grinder is another big game changer. steak ground up for burger meat is so good. like, unbelievably better than 90% of any pre-ground beef i've bought.

Probably like $4. Which is still too much for the most basic eating material tbh.

For a while it was where I live. A pack of bacon cost close to 11 CAD, so with eggs and bread it was a good 15 dollars. Whole chicken went up to 17 dollars per. It's gone back down a bit, but still not near what I would like to pay for it.

Yes, actually. We have 3 people in our family, plus 2 people staying with us while one of them is getting medical treatment. The point was its original cost was 4 dollars, a 7 dollar inflation, all while Covid happened. It's gone down to 7 dollars now, still not cheap, but more affordable.

Yes, I still agree with him though. That was only an example of Bacon. Everything else has increased in price substantially where I live. Mind you, I have unique circumstances since my province is an island and we have to deal with importing costs. My grocery bill over the past 2 years has increased from 120ish dollars to close to 240. Nearly double what I was paying 2 years ago.

And while I can't feed 5 people for under 15 dollars at a restaurant, generally everything else is cheaper to order via a restaurant. Burgers for example, all the ingredients to make burgers will cost me close to 30 dollars. Meanwhile we can order burgers from a restaurant for probably 20. Same with Lasagna. At bare minimum if I'm making a 4 lb lasagna its going to cost me at least 40 dollars, probably closer to 50 before tax. Meanwhile, we can get a lasagna for maybe 35-40 dollars tax included at a restaurant.

I have high cholesterol and my doc flat-out told me it's a genetic thing and not a diet thing

He even told me that changing my diet wouldn't lower it (or raise 'good' cholesterol), so I'm on the pill
I weigh just over 200 lbs

Thats not true. Grocery prices are definitely up, but so is fast food. The dollar menu turned into the $2-3 menu. You just have to know how to shop for deals and you can get stuff.

No it isnt. Everyone who thinks its expensive to cook at home doesnt know how to shop on the cheap. For one, eating cheaply at home isnt buying shit to cook for dinner every night. Its buying enough to eat the same shit or variations of the very similar ingredients for multiple meals throughout the week.

for sure, but a trap a ton of people fall into is buying a sort of expensive thing of spices just to make a single recipe once.

so yeah, if you buy a $3 thing of Italian seasoning just to make a recipe you found once then throw it in the cabinet never to be seen again, no, that meal wasnt very cost efficient. But you could make a ton of different shit with that seasoning for the next year or more mixing it up with different types of seasoning as well to have some variety.
