No insurance so I have to dump about 20k to get 3 root canals and 4 implants to fix my fucked up teeth. I'm not doing this this to get perfect white movie star teeth. I'm doing to not be in agonizing pain or potentially die from infection.

Yep, as a result of decades of not caring for mine properly I ended up having to do a full extraction because of the pain I was in constantly (and it was way cheaper than getting root canals and crowns, and let's not even get into how absurd the real best treatment for lost teeth - implants - cost.)

Bad teeth is my #1 physical turnoff in a person.

I've gone every 6 months since I was a kid. Zero cavities and have never had an issue.

For the price of Amazon Prime and a Netflix subscription, you can have Dental insurance that covers a 6 month checkup, cleaning, XRays, and 50-60% off most extensive dental work.

But Stranger Things isn't going to watch itself, so... priorities.

I can testify that you are right, and it isnt even costing me that much in money, more in time and pain. 5 fillings and 1 root canal/crown from not going to the dentist for 10 years. Also have fun disease so I gotta get my teeth cleaned every 3 months

I have bare minimum insurance that covers the cost of fillings, check ups and x rays but the pricier stuff like root canals, implants, deep cleanings...etc they barely pay for.

Yeah, let's blame a Netflix subscription on why people end up having dental problems.

Piss off with this classism shit.

Many reasons this shit happens - poverty is one and it has nothing to do with Netflix subs, but anything from genetic lottery wrt having a weak enamel, depression leading to a lack of self-care (me), etc.

I was jokingly comparing costs.

A decent dental plan costs about $14 a month, with your 6month exam + cleaning costing around $70.

It literally would cost the average person 50 cents a day to professionally maintain their teeth. I say the average person because there are always exceptions to the rule. Sometimes you just can't fight genetics.

But sometimes people don't have their priorities in order.

Unfortunately insurance like that won't cover for interventions.

Shrug, youre so drugged up you don't really feel any of it. As far as root canals go the only part that really hurts is them ripping the root out.

I love my dentist.

He's the only doctor I go to that doesn't tell me I need to lose weight.

I've gone every 6 months and have yellow af teeth and occasional cavaties. It really depends on genetics more than anything else. I brush, mouthwash, and floss 2-3 times every day as well.

Which is still gonna be 100s to 1000s of dollars. An expense that many people can't absorb regardless of their entertainment spending habits. I just paid upwards of $3K out of pocket for a bunch of work and I have insurance. Fortunately my situation is such that it's no huge deal but I imagine someone living paycheck to paycheck would be in deep shit right now

I sure wish I did...

I've mentioned it at one point on this site, but I was actually yelled at and constantly accused of stuff when brushing, so I eventually just stopped. Later I was denied time to even do it for years. I did eventually resume, but the damage was already done including chronic nerve pain despite procedures to correct both.

While I don't floss/rinse regularly, I do legitimately enjoy brushing my teeth for the fresh feeling afterwords. I haven't had any dental issues but I do want to get braces at some point (they aren't covered by my insurance though).
