You guys sound like you take conversations way too serious. There's nothing wrong with putting up a challenge to get deeper into a conversation.

And before you jump to the extreme of assuming this means I take transphobic and racist sides of arguments, there's way more nuance to it.

Conversations a lot of the time are just there to entertain, if you're around people who don't get dramatic about every conversation. And if you're not a know it all, you realize that sitting in the middle of the road isn't worse than jumping on a side just because it sounds good. Most things in the world, you're gonna have lil to no insight on. Challenging who you're speaking to is a good way to get a deeper understanding of why they believe what they believe. And prodding in this instance would give you a deeper understanding of the opposite end of the conversation.

Hard C, especially if it's something I don't agree with.

Too many people argue from a place of passion, not a place of logic, so it's easy to present them with an alternate viewpoint that they fail to think of, as their prejudice has usually block out the possibility.

Oh I did, and its not something I find to be necessary or beneficial to the conversation at all. Also, asking questions to further understand someones viewpoint is not the same as playing Devils Advocate. Devils Advocate is actively arguing against them for literally no good reason besides the sport of it.

I dunno man. You seem to be taking the "devil" part too literal and only seeing it as a malicious thing where you're irritating the other person. Or maybe I just am use to hearing it used in a less invasive way. I thought I explained my version of it pretty well, maybe a lil judgemental of people I see as too sensitive. But your response was "Neh, you're a douchebag" in much less words. Saying it was pointless after I explained the point. I'm gonna be busy now tho. So, different strokes for different folks. People here hate being challenged in general. Im trying to shake off the bad habit I picked up here of easily getting an attitude immediately. Im rarely ever actually irritated by anything, but I jump straight to an attitude cause it's just how most talk here, sarcasm and major assumptions. And this is the only place I do that so easily. IRL, I hear everyone all the way out and am monotone in discussions. Years of this place infects you. That's probably most the internet. My initial post here even had sass abd assumptions. And I'm someone actively trying to manage it.

C, but it's getting harder, since everyone is ready to assume you're dogwhistling. Which, I get, there's a lot of that shit, but it's no good to assume.
