What food (or meal), be it home cooked, delivery, or at a restaurant, do you currently have a hankering for that you haven't been able to satisfy for some reason or another?

There's a burger joint in Milwaukee called Nite Owl that has some supreme food. Gonna go there with by buddies this weekend but the suspense is real.

Taco Bell
In January I wanted nothing but a half-dozen tacos with fire sauce from the Bell and By Jove did I do just that.

A Legit Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich.

....It's not my normal go-to...but I've been wanting one.
I'm not sure who makes a good one around here.

Though I can get something called a Debris Sandwich which is kinda close.

I bought some generic yellow corn tortilla chips and a can of store brand nacho cheese sauce.

God DAMN did that scratch the itch for ballpark nachos. The chips were thick, crunchy, and salty. And the sauce was just the right consistency with some jalapeo juice to give it kick.

beef stew. i've been meaning to make a big pot of it, double batch, and freeze most of the leftovers so i can have some any time. i have the beef stew meat already, in the freezer ready to thaw, and i'm getting low on the bags of 15 bean soup and lentil soup i have in the freezer, so i guess it might be the time to get on that.

i also want to barbecue. i got a bunch of ground beef and plant based ground beef substitute for burgers in the freezer too. and hot dogs. and some chicken.

My slow cooker ceramic finally broke.
I was showing signs of cracking, but now it's a goner. :-(
I am thinking about repurposing it as a Herb planter...seems about right! :-)

It's been a while since I've had the Chicken Bryan from Carabba's.

Also, it's been way to long since I've had a Donato's pizza. I wish they would open up a store in Tucson, instead of having it at the Red Robin that's clear across town from me.

Around 8 years ago, I had this really good soup my Filipino friend's grandma made us. We were passing through Chicago where her grandma lived and decided to surprise her. She was really insistent that she cook for us but she didn't speak English and had no conceptualization of veganism whatsoever, so we tried to decline.

My friend tried to discourage her but apparently that's impossible with Filipino grandmas, so she had to stand in the kitchen and watch everything she put in it, gently discouraging her every time she picked up something that had animal products. A half hour of her adding ingredients went by and by the time she was done, she had worked into a routine of holding up the ingredient for my friend to approve. When there was something she could use, her face lit up. It was really adorable.

The soup simmered for like an hour and the whole house smelled so good. It had a lot of carrots, potatoes, bitter melon, and a green leafy vegetable I couldn't identify, in a broth of vinegar, brown sugar, and soy sauce. It was so simple yet so delicious.

The main thing I remember was the vinegar, but it wasn't white vinegar she used. It was a deep, dark red vinegar with a very peculiar taste that didn't overwhelm despite her using a lot of it. I've never been able to pin it down. I've gone to several Asian markets and tried maybe a dozen types of vinegar, no luck. Someone suggested it may have been a homemade vinegar or perhaps a blend, but alas, whatever it was went to her grave with her.

I occasionally make the closest version I've managed to put together but it's not the same.

There's a really good gyro place in my city. Haven't been able to go in months because I no longer have a car and it's not on any of the delivery apps. I'd get a grilled chicken gyro with fries (they have the most amazing, crispy fries I've ever tasted) and extra tzatziki sauce. It was my favorite place, but it was a bit pricey, so I didn't go often.
