The manga is monthly, so it's pretty slow-going. The anime just does its own thing while occasionally catching up to the manga's previous arc. They've introduced that character, but their development is still progressing. They're probably at least two arcs away from even touching it.

there's a strong focus on: aliens, cyborgs, and technology.

so if that interests you, then maybe it's worth checking out.

The manga started in 2016, so it's only 6 years. It took Naruto 5 years to reach its first time skip.

I think the Boruto manga is fairly close to a time skip at this point; you can see where the plot is heading. Dunno if it's remotely close to the flashforward in the beginning though; that feels like it could potentially be the near the ending. But is it worth reading? If by worth reading, you mean good, then no, but then again Naruto never was good lol
