Just like Catholics have to eat fish on Friday. Arbitrary rules that don't actually matter. I can't imagine that if there IS a heaven when I get there my diet on Fridays would come into question.

Like forcing women to cover their faces, it's something some guys just made up to control people and stamp out opposition to the religion.

The supposed reason is "Images will make you worship him as a false idol instead of worshipping God."

But you're more naive than Rebecca Chambers if you believe that's the reason why people are mad about it.

iirc, it's against Muslim faith to not just have images of Muhammad, but also for the rest of the prophets, Jesus included.

edit: maybe it's a cultural thing rather than religious; I dunno.

Religion isn't just scriptures, it's the culture built up around the belief system.

the Qur'an forbids Muslims from drawing depictions of Muhammad. They don't want him worshipped like Allah.

It's silly to expect non Muslims to follow this and be mad about it. Context matters of course, but nobody should be killed or get death threats.

One of the ideas is that iconic depictions of prophets have the potential to dilute/skew/obfuscate their actual message.

Getting upset or taking action against people who draw them isnt part of Islam though, extremists who do crazy stuff like commit unspeakable acts of violence in reaction to Muhammad cartoons arent following any precepts of Islam.
