I'm just curious due to everyone saying how bad that was of will Smith, however.

Either way, forget about that and please answer honestly.

Alopecia, so balding with immense anxiety(which is a symptom) along with what comes with that(panic attack, horrible self image, etc)

As a woman who loves her (very long) hair, I have sympathy for Jada because of her hair condition and would feel worse about myself if I had it... but honestly? Hair loss isn't a sickness, and there's plenty of different ways to go about not looking like a "G.I Jane", none of which she seems keen to go for.

Plus, he literally laughed at the joke at first, which goes a long way of telling how he really felt.

My stance has been pretty much I dont condone what he did but I 100% get it. I personally know people with this condition (as well as friends going through chemo) and how much agony and pain these associated symptoms cause them. If you saw the anguish someone suffered from personal attacks about a physical condition they cant control you might be more understanding is how I feel. I guess most people dont actually care about other peoples problems unless it affects them though.

I don't condone what he did, but i'm tired of people acting like "omg its just hair loss get over it"...Hair for a lot of people means a lot. It can affect mental health. Especially for women and especially more so in the black community. There is a reason many of them choose to get extensions or wear wigs. In this case maybe she chose not to do that because she wanted to empower herself in a situation in which she had no power...I know i wouldn't feel good if I got made fun of when trying to do that. So please try and consider context. you can attack and criticize Will and Jada without downplaying what something like hair loss could mean to her or people like her.

People get made fun of every day. Much worse than what poor Jada went through at the Oscars.

Idk. Its weird seeing people come to her defense in such a dramatic fashionlike have yall ever stepped foot outside? That was super tame compared to what regular people get ripped on for everydayand nobody jumps to defend them.

I'm a believer that intent matters more than words. If there was no ill intent, no. If it bothered her, then I would let them know.

If it was said out of malice with the intent to hurt? Then yes.

Everything I am seeing is saying it is a self diagnosis and from all the pictures I see there are no bald spots from the shaved head. So I say in this case its complete BS. If it's a legit condition...still BS because of the setting. If this was said in everyday regular life, then maybe.

As someone with conditions, Id rather someone make a joke about my specific illness rather than be referred to as a sick person by people >_>. Even if it is what it is at the end of the day, you don't want that to be what people use to characterize you in any way.

You could say "if your wife had a condition". That way you're not wording it like it's who they are, more so what they deal with.

I prefer jokes that treat my conditions like Im not some special case that shouldn't be involved in society norms and made fun of like literally every other aspect of life that comedians pick on. What's not cool tho, would be dedicating a whole special to pick on just what Im dealing with. Cause then you loop back to making me feel like an abnormal person.

But, I don't speak for the millions upon millions with unique conditions and personalities

Balding, no matter the panic attacks involved is balding. Men get jokes about being bald all the time. I guess smacking people should be a norm there.

If Jada was under going Chemo, then the joke would be way out of line. But it was ultimately a GI Jane joke and Will and Jada should both be thrilled that Rock put her in the same realm as a prime Demi Moore.

It's dumb how so many people are throwing away the nuance of how light the joke is. Instead of talking about the intensity of the joke, they take a stance that attacks comedy in general. Because the joke itself isn't offensive enough to actually provide a good reason for any reaction. So, it becomes a vague "any joke about" thing.

I can guarantee if you told someone the story without the context of the joke, their mind would jump to it being a way more visceral joke. Then when you finally filled in what the joke was, it was be very underwhelming lol

We dont actually know what her condition is really. Similar thing just happened with Bruce Willis people have been bad mouthing him and he actually had a serious medical conditions they felt bad about now. Discussing her behavior would have been a different matter imo.

How hard do you have to squint before you find yourself being able to compare what Bruce is going through to what Jada deals with? Chris wouldn't go up on stage and make a similar joke about Bruce. Again, we're taking away all nuance to try to make a point. That's how light the joke is. You gotta pretend he would do the same to someone suffering from way worse stuff to make your case. And again, he called her Demi Moore in her prime. There's nothing to really reach for when it comes to Bruce, since Bruces condition is way more damning to his life. Sadly :/. Bruce doesn't get to continue living his normal life while looking different but still completely fine

The joke wasn't even that funny and it's an aged joke too. You have to know of GI Jane to even get it and even then, it wasn't that good of a joke.

It's like a knee jerk chuckle and after that never the faintest laughter should come through again. Jada not laughing was probably a little of vanity and even more of the joke not being that good to begin with.

I also think Will Smith initially laughing had something to do with that. Its the Oscars, your table is in the spotlight, its Hollywood etiquette to just laugh at these things, Especially when you're on Camera. In the moment its possible he may not have even processed the joke, let alone thought it was funny it that timespan.
