So I've been asking for a promotion at work, they said they would give when we aren't short handed at my position anymore. Today they asked me if I would be willing to do some dishwasher shifts (where I originally started) because we finally got enough people to where we aren't short handed at my position anymore. I pretty much told them I'd only help if they gave me that promotion.

I don't like leaving my buddies back in dish short handed but I feel like it would just be holding me back from getting that promotion otherwise.

You work at a restaurant? Because I used to work at a restaurant and left for the same reason. I wanted the server job with the beefy tips, the job they promised me. But they said "We'll see about setting you up for that in the summer."

But like you, I didn't wanna say "Fuck you guys" because I was kinda friendly with these people. So I made up a compelling reason that I had to leave.

Keep standing up for yourself. Dont go back to dish.

also get out of back of house and go to front of house.

Kinda, it's a winery with a kitchen, they have been dicking me around with this promotion but they did with the last promotion too because we were shorthanded at dish and couldn't let me move up until we had enough people but then we got good at dish and they actually moved me up, seeing as it was the same problem as before but even worse due to the worker shortage I assumed they meant it.

I am in the front of house now, and I really like my job I just want to learn the other positions too for the raises/versatility

inclined to agree. don't give them an inch, they'll try to take a mile.

Dish is a downgrade. Don't go back. If you do you'll be in the pit forever. I worked BoH for 12 years and this is a huge warning sign to me. They promised you a raise, they owe you it. You don't need to do them a favor to get it and if they say no everywhere is hiring.

I don't plan on going back, I'll tell them I quit if they make me and they know they can't afford to lose me, hell I got caught smoking by corporate which should be an auto firing and didn't even get written up
