It would be far more in line with Buck's character to sell the business upon retirement, likely to Thatherton or whoever else was willing to pay the most for it. This would leave Hank not only feeling utterly betrayed, but also potentially out of a job or in a situation where he no longer wants to stay there.

This would motivate him to instead make use of the professional contacts and reputation he built up over the years to open Hill Propane and fulfill his destiny at long last.

No, but I feel like it's inevitable

He should give Strickland Propane to Roger "Buddha" Sack.

He just doesn't seem like he would actually be able to handle ownership. He's loyal and knows his product but seems more like the sort that is destined for middle management, not the big boss.
