Are they just gone forever? Any hint topics or tips that were posted for games that released in the early to mid 2000s are not archived anywhere in gamefaqs database system?

GameFAQs didn't start archiving game board topics until the end of January 2008, so any topics and posts that were not active at that time are gone forever, unless they were manually archived by a third party.

I tried to make an rpg maker game for another board a long time ago and Purge Monster was going to be a boss in it.

There are a few iirc. I just use the one, and gfaqs won't even let you say the name.

It is pretty sad. I play a lot of early 2000s games without active communities now and a lot of strategies people figured out are kind of lost to time and need to be rediscovered if they weren't documented in an FAQ.

Yeah this part really bothers me. Sometimes in games of early 2000s and before, there are sections where I go "someone must have had trouble with this section too, there must be an easier way"

The way back machine might have some ancient posts.

I know that there is usually a post from that site around 9/11 in the past few years that gets posted as a reminder.

Well, a bunch - but recently I'm into the DemiKids games on the GBA and it's a decent example. Actually this is a more fortunate example than others because although they're not very popular the games do get a little extra attention by being connected to more popular Shin Megami Tensei games. But in any case, the FAQs there are extremely barebones and a lot of good knowledge is only preserved in late message board posts. Actually I had to wayback machine to see some of those good posts there too because some posts get deleted for whatever various reasons. Who knows for sure but I'd bet there was a good bit of helpful info posted pre-2008 closer to when the games came out and would've had an audience.

In Japanese games like this it's often useful to navigate the Japanese side of the web and see if they document it better than us but that can be hit or miss too. I've imported guide books in a couple cases to see info that's not documented well on either side of the web. Last resort for me is sometimes even when a game is otherwise obscure, there might be a small dedicated speedrunning community that documented some good info. But I'm really a completionist and their knowledge would obviously be less geared to completionism and more towards quicker strategies. But dedicated speedrunners are the ones who dig up game mechanic nuances the most I think. Also, speedrunning info these days often just gets dumped in various discord servers which is even worse for preservation than gamefaqs boards are...

This is what truly bothers me. Any of the lowkey releases, be they on handheld or console, might have had discussion at the time with helpful tips and hints and maybe even easter eggs. But not everything is documented in a faq so there must have been some things that slipped through the cracks, lost to time forever

Or maybe boktai. gba and handhelds in general have a good chunk of discussion that disappears to time once the game's release passes and the activity on the board dies down.
