Right now over zoom. People are mad and pushing back on the supervisor. Lmao. They're speaking of a hybrid mode going every other week. I don't mind much since the office is 6 mins away from my home, but I definitely can see why people are upset, specially since work has progressed smoothly.

It's so fucking stupid. Boomers think being in an office and dressed with a person micro managing you is how you get good work output.

I've been working from home for 2+ years now, and I will never go back into an office.

I think my classes might start up optionally in person next semester.

I think I may go for it, I learn better in a traditional setting.

At least they were up front about the justification there. Many companies, including my own, are dancing around that topic like its some big pink elephant in the room.

Its like, cmon, we (in accounting and finance functions especially) know that the main reason why return to office is being so heavily pushed is because were locked into long term leases that we cant get out of easily or restructure. If we could, wed go 100% remote due to the substantial cost savings. Dont try to hide that key point and pull half a dozen other BS reasons out of thin air to cover up that fact.

You will if the work cultures shifts so you can't reliably find work from home employment, which is one of the reasons so many businesses are pushing for a return to the office in unison.

Plus I imagine such substantial amount on leases makes a big part of the expenses for taxes.

i mean, they can take the deduction of rent against their income regardless if employees work there or not.

They closed our office location for good and told us to WFH forever. Worst case is they will try to force me to move 3000 miles to Massachusetts. We used to call it the "ultimatum" back when we had an office because every once in a while someone would get the "move or quit" talk from HQ. No one ever took the move because if you quit they give you like a 6 month-1 year severance.

Have to understand these buildings don't just have a deal with your workplace but businesses like restaurants that rent space in them. Cleaning companies. Power providers. On and on.

No one being in the building makes them really sad because you are their product they need to farm.

Yeah 2 of my coworkers have already moved out of state, literally hundreds of miles away. My organization said it's technically not WFH but work from anywhere.

I worked during the entire pandemic at my job, around people. Even when places like Target, Wallmart, Drive Through food, ect, WE were still serving foods to kids. We even drove a couple buses on a rout to deliver to people so kids wouldn't go hungry because yes, we have a lot of poor kids that have shitty parents that don't feed them

Do you think we deserve a health bonus or something? The teachers, the custodians, the fucking principle, all got to work safely from home away from being effected, yet we had to be there in person and risk getting COVID

My wifes job has had that conversation on and off for months now. For a couple weeks they tried to get everyone to come in 2 days a week and that got shot down after a couple weeks because no one wanted to haul their equipment to and from the office.

In my case, the office is literally 6 mins away so I wouldn't mind going every other week. Would do me good to get out of my house and have human contact.

With gas prices higher? Try it, just try it.

Seems like most of these office companies are only just getting back the number of employees they lost from covid in the first place. If they go back, they're gonna start all over. But who knows, people are dumb, maybe they'll fall for it.

But if people don't go to the office what will middle managers do? And let's not forget about the poor owners of commercial real estate who lease that office space to the these companies who will no longer need it.
