Probably the most well rounded game Bioware ever developed. You've got fun choices, fun party members, a bunch of good villains and a good main plot with a satisfying finale and ending.

Biggest issue is that some dungeons drag on a bit but in the age of 80 hour open world games that complaint is probably pretty quaint these days.

Also who could have thought that the Darkspawn plot would end up being more satisfying than both the Reapers and the White Walkers.

Loghain did nothing wrong

It really was just all-around incredibly well done. Sure its not perfect but it succeeded at what it tried to do IMO

It's funny because at the time it was pitched as Bioware going back to their roots. It wasn't anything ambitious but it was pure Bioware.

Now I'm more desperate for that than ever.

I enjoyed the story, but not the combat.

Loved it. It was after ME1 iirc, so I guess it was the last Bioware game I truly liked.

Morrigan needs to get a thicker blanket

The whole series has serious balance problems though, which makes it hard to play as anything but "the best" class in each game. I have a hard time forcing myself to play DAO as anything but mage since Fireball and Inferno are just so ridiculously good in 99% of fights and they make the early parts of the game so much easier.

You could give a DW Rogue or DW Warrior a try. They don't have the AoE capabilities that the mage has but they can end fights (especially ones against a single difficult opponent) about as fast as the mage can. Sword and shield warriors are also great, though obviously that's much less of a damage setup and more for tanking.

Archery and 2 handed are very underpowered though. At least for the main game. Awakening (and the other DLCs that allow the Awakening classes to be used) does make Archery + 2H broken.

I remember a pretty combat method was mass paralysis and letting your rogues backstab everyone.

I found the Mage Origin one of the more boring ones so I usually didn't bother with it.

I recall high cunning rogue was great, archery or melee.

Archery was kind of just ass until you got to Awakening, and then it broke the game

The roleplaying options are so good. It doesn't even matter to me if most of the dialogue options give basically the same response, just let me characterise my character.

Oh yeah I beat the final boss on nightmare difficulty in seconds. It was beautiful.

He did everything wrong.

Maybe a top 10 all time for me. As mentioned, it had a lot of roleplaying potential. Backstabbing Rogue was the most fun to play imo but my "canon" character was a 2H Warrior because of how he fit into the party with the other characters I liked to use. I loved those melee finisher animations. Awakening was a great expansion, too.

terrible i could barely get past the first five minutes it was like sotc but too much content not good

I love the stab to the guy followed by a decapitation. Such a cool animation heh

To be honest, abandoning Cailan was the right move. If Loghain had stayed and fought, then he and his army would have been killed by the darkspawn as well.

Fantastic game.

The good thing is that the bad sequels don't retroactively ruin it, it has a good ending.

I wasn't a bad game, I thought the plot was a bit generic; "Dragon leads it's Orc horde to conquer the world".

To be fair, if Loghain did the right thing at the start of the game, there really wouldn't be a game to play.

I think that's fine. It didn't need to be anything more.

It was the characters having to handle that scenario that made it interesting. Especially Loghain who was both trying to protect the country but also sabotaging the best chance at stopping it.

Even the big dilemma at the end was more about how much you trust Morrigan and what you are willing to sacrifice. It's a very character driven game and the Darkspawn are just the vehicle that gets them all there. Which I think is pretty hard to pull off with these kinds of plots.

I fucking love Origins so much, I think I've probably spent 500+ hours playing it.

I wish DA2 had like a years extra development. Not only would it have just given the game some needed polish, but it would have released around the time of Game of Thrones started airing. The whole political intrigue aspect would have been a much more popular choice for a game then.

Luckily its BC with really old games from 2 gens ago that theyre not porting or remastering. You know, the really good games.....

EA barely remaster any games. They're weird like that.

The Dead Space Trilogy should be a no brainer.

i think dragon age origins is special, in that it doesn't really do anything that unique, but everything it does, it does exceptionally well. one of my all time favorites.

I don't think a DA series remaster is really feasible at the moment, given that DAO and DA2 were made on a proprietary engine that would have to be rebuilt from the ground up. It's certainly not impossible, but it would require a whole lot of work and they've got other things to work on right now.

One of the top rpgs of all time, imo (as a stand alone game)

It's probably my favorite RPG ever, and there are some fantastic mods for it out there to extend it even further. Unfortunately many of them are now lost because of the two main mod sites, one shut down and the other went on a power trip that caused many modders to delete everything and leave.

A game that has spawned two others with another on the way. Do better.

It's 100 percent a top 5 game for me. I loved almost every second of it (looking at you Mage Tower Fade Scene)
