so i did a dungeon. im a Warrior tank and my gear was a bit lacking. instead of kicking me from the group, they just made sure to let me roll on any gear that could help. which did!

then after, one of the dudes friended me, bought me a full set of gear, gave me tips, and 100k gil!

if this were wow, they'd call me a shit tank and kick me from the group after the first pull!

That's because they punish players for being extremely toxic unlike the WoW cesspool.

If you have a sprout on your head, nine times out of ten people will actually gift you things and help you along for you to get comfortable in the game.

The community really does welcome new players kindly.

Thats awesome TC. I remember I was playing MGS Peace Walker and you could co-op missions. The only way to get stealth camouflage (or it might have been something else) was to S-rank a particular mission that was difficult for me. I played it with a stranger online and he/she absolutely killed it. Finished the mission so fast and I was able to get the item. It was great.

Wish it was like this in real life more often too

We actually like to retain newer players where possible. There's a bunch of whistles and stuff that let you summon mounts. Some of them you can't get until later expansions but the content isn't as busy as it was when it came out. Things like the Bozjan resistance were way full but once the new relic stuff comes out for Endwalker it won't be as busy. You'll end up with at least a few extra whistles for mounts from those places, and since they're common enough they don't really sell for a ton, but still more than new players should spend. Since they can be traded I'll sometimes pass through low level areas and gift sprouts one.

Yeah, it's pretty friendly.

i imagine you haven't interacted with the ffxiv community for very long, tc. mmo players are the same everywhere you go -- give it time.

just wish sprouts would stop when HW/free trial ends so they don't shit up the rest of the game

people tend to be pretty lax to new players early on, but if you are level 70+...maybe not.(understandably so)

I've been playing since 2014 and can only count around a dozen times I've encountered toxicity. Thats pretty damn low if you think about it.

pro tip, stay away from the PC FFXIV board here if you want to avoid toxicity.

About twice as much in my case but most of it was in diadem or relic quest areas where everyone was shitposting. I report toxic dungeon players maybe once a year, because they went beyond asking people to do better and just started insulting.

Its this weird thing where it wraps around to feeling fake and forced with how uwu positive people act.

WoW players are also the go to boogeyman and its kinda funny how quickly people jump to that.

But overall ye pretty positive better than the alternative
