DS was pretty damn boring to me. Just wondering if Elden Ring is better. Gameplay wasn't the problem but the lack of direction and interaction was a turn off.

>lack of direction
Elden Ring literally has barely indication of what you're doing or why
Like there's a trail to follow sure but ultimately you're just gonna wander around places until you get to the general 'right' area

There's more of a sense of direction in this game compared to the previous Souls game but not by much.

Probably not.

The meat and potatoes if Elden Ring is generally the same as the Souls games, it being open world probably wont make you like it.

But youll only truly know if you try it for yourself.

If you consider Demon's Souls as lacking direction, you're probably going to hate Elden Ring. And honestly, I don't see how you can say Demon's Souls lacks direction when it's probably the most straightforward of the Souls games. It's literally divided into zones and there's only one or two ways through the levels.

All Souls games have a lack of direction. I had to eventually look up where to find the glintstone key. I searched all of Liurnia, including Caria Manor and that tower that you can later invert.

elden ring offers you very little direction and punishes you for exploring the areas outside of the intended order that from software deigned to not tell you about

you'd hate it

lol there's like 4 different spots that are easy to find that warp you directly to the entrance and gives you a map telling you exactly where it is

Stick to linear platformers and corridor shooters

Wait how does it punish? I found myself in Caelid before the castle and realized "Yeah this is obviously a later area" when I fought two pumpkin heads and got two shotted. And then you can just warp back to a more familiar location. Elden Ring is the least punishing Souls game by far, often than not you directly respawn at the boss wall. Respeccing is even super simple and easy too.

Tbh the main quest of Elden Ring seems to be pretty straight forward. They guide you where to go. All the extra shit is what's a little more confusing. But even then most of it you can stumble upon if you're just exploring. there are definitely some missable events or sequences tho, but most of them can be completed later in some way.

No, you'll end up disliking Elden Ring even more considering it plays mostly the same as Demon's Souls, is more difficult, and the world is much bigger and doesn't really offer good guidance of where to go next exactly and how to get there.

you'll flat out fail or miss out on the majority of npcs and their quests in the game if you don't follow the path the game wants you to take

No, HTM is right. There is a intended order that the devs wanted the player to tackle the areas in so the game's difficulty wouldn't be too difficult and so they possibly wouldn't miss out on meeting NPCs, going through their questlines and doing other limited time things. They don't tell you this and even though the game is open world the quest system isn't designed around it and it can occasionally punish players for going too far from areas on the intended path and defeating later bosses earlier than intended.

Demon Souls has like three actually challenging bosses and 2 challenging areas. The rest is pretty simple and puzzle fights which isn't a bad thing. I loved the creativity. By far the easiest Souls game.
