Eh, SNL has (or had) its moments, and I'm sure it's a tough show to do every week, but I always thought it was overrated. Candidly, I thought Mad TV was funnier.

Even now it has it's moments, but I really only watch Weekend Update and whatever people tend to share on social media.

Yeah, same. When they put it up on Youtube I'll only checkout Weekend Update and then look at any of the skits that look interesting or depending on who the host is, but I'm not gonna sit there and watch the whole thing.

This is something I've been pointing out for years. Carlin is hilarious, but is one of the worst performers ever. I remember when he passed and either HBO or Showtime had a marathon of his specials. He never figured out how to handle applause.

I sort of feel this way about Bill Hicks. Based on what I've seen, I think Hicks was funnier and more appealing outside of his standup, like in interviews. In his standup, I think he sometimes makes thoughtful points, but it's not funny, and can come across as grating, smug, and overbearing.

It's saturday night, 11:30pm (10:30 central and mountain), and you're apparently at home for some reason. If you're drunk and/or maybe high, may as well put on SNL.

Yeah Hicks is another one where some of the material aged funny. Sam Kinison is another one. Andrew Dice Clay has its moments.

Youll occasionally get a really funny skit from a talented writer, but theyre often preceded by some cringey shit from Kate McKinnons unfunny, bug-eyed face.

I can honestly say I have never once watched an episode of SNL. I think it used to be popular back in the day but I don't know anyone who actually talks about watching it anymore.

And that's what turned me off of it. Political comedy is fine. But too much of it gets preachy. I don't find having a bunch of jesters trying to beat me over the head with their political viewpoints while trying to disguise it as comedy. Regardless of whether or not I agree with the idea, it gets old quick.

I've lived roughly 15-30 minutes from NYC throughout my entire life and even then, I haven't come across anybody who has watched the show.
Lol, 15-30 minutes from NYC can mean a totally different world, especially if you're talking east.

I can't tell you about the demographics, but I can tell you that their sax player Lenny Pickett is one of the greatest players on the planet and I would go to a show given the opportunity just to hear him play at the close. The fact that the piece was originally written by Howard Shore is just icing on the jazzy cake:

Yeah, usually the opener, obviously Weekend Update, and then a spattering of skits here and there. But it's definitely not "pretty much only" political.

Eh, not really. I was high school in the 2000s and my favorite era is probably SNL from the 90s.
