The horse combat in particular is absolutely f****** abysmal and the melee combat is much less refined. I have no idea how people are claiming that this is the best yet

What bothers me is that the horse combat isn't just unrefined, it's straight up bad. Terrible, in fact. I cannot believe they even allowed it to stay in the game in this condition.

I do have to say that after the Nioh games and The Surge 2, playing another Souls style game is a big step back in terms of combat, but Elden Ring's combat is still better than the other Souls games.

Horse combat is trash but it's the only way to fight big bosses.

There's so many things that bother me about the horse combat, from the fact that you randomly jump off your horse if you turn too quickly to the fact that you have to juggle several different healing items while riding at the same time like some kind of crazy multitasking Pro.

Horse combat is new and not trash. Once you figure it out it's actually supremely satisfying. It's a defensive style that pays off, you just gotta pay attention to that stamina bar.

Been watching a friend play it while I brainstorm ideas for a project I'm doing, the horse combat definitely looks worse than even Dynasty Warriors 5 mounted combat lol. Everything else looks solid though, cept for the jump attacks, that shit looks extremely janky and weird.

It takes some getting used to. I was playing Genshin Impact for like a year before playing this, and all my Sekiro/Dark Souls skills are gone lol. First boss murdered me because I'm too used to abusing the Genshin dodge. Even forgot that targetting was a thing.

I'm guessing you haven't faced any bosses yet. Or you felt great about yourself after beating the intentionally toned down Margit.

Also, Git gud on the horse and it's great. Pro tip, just ride around shit in circles. Anything that's not a boss or out of your league will die quick. The horse used to be better, but got needed sine the network test.

Also, Bloodborne is a lot easier then a lot from games.

You can like scoop with certain weapons on the horse, where your weapon has a hit box while youre charging a heavy attack and it can multi hit, so if you can ram into the opponent and then stop right as the attack goes off it deals big damage. It feels amazing when it goes off.

I just dont get playing a game and expecting to never lose or not face any hardships, things dont always go as planned. I disagree about the horse combat feeling unrefined too, everything about it feels really intricately designed to me; I dont always like it, and Id rather fight on foot but it feels like everything the horse combat does is happening on purpose.

I'm using the Xbox Elite controller, which apparently is much easier to trigger the thumb stick button. Apparently that's a feature.

yo I just figured out the R2 with greatsword on horseback combat. That shit is the bomb

Worst aspect of the horse is that it occasionally gets stuck on things that it shouldn't.

Beyond that just charge and run away and you'll do fine. Just jam on the attack button. If you even need to heal your horse then you're bad. Also, you have ample time to get distance and heal unless you're getting one shotted.

This is like my first ever Souls game and I picked up on the horse combat basically immediately. What's wrong with it, again?

I don't think it's trash but I definitely think it's the worst part of the game.

It is annoying how with several large bosses there doesn't seem to be a viable option other than horse combat.
