Isn't the whole usa continent equipped with anti-missles radars and shields to stop nukes from coming at us? We're good.

These systems aren't perfect but we're very well protected. Surrounded* by thousands of miles of ocean on all sides essentially and no one has the ability to even get close to us besides China.

*Alaska might be in a bit of a hot spot right now but thankfully there's not a lot of area to defend. Basically the entire state lives on the southern coast.

Putin absolutely would do something like that. It's essentially what America did to Japan. Just nuke until they surrender to stop being nuked.

They would use atmospheric detonation like we did to Japan. Detonate a nuke at ground level (in the dirt and dust) and youre going to have fallout for a long time. Detonate in the air and you can enter much quicker.

Because this isn't a video game and life goes on. Just because it's the end of Putin doesn't mean it's the end of Russia and that's what it will be if he even tries something like that.

UN needs to deal with this or a EU country as they are closer to Russia.

There's no EU country that could take on Russia alone. It would have to be a coalition, and even then some countries would likely side with Russia.

Russia has also been working heavily on anti satellite weaponry and has most of the payload delivery to space. Things that dont fill me with large amounts of assurance.

The lone silver lining in all of this is that we have some pretty recent examples that suggest advanced militaries running counterinsurgency campaigns in foreign countries tend to find that task harder than they first expect.

China, Russia, and the USA have been racing to militarize space for years now. Theyve all got ways to launch nukes from satellites. They wouldnt have to worry about positioning an ICBM because they could just wait for the satellite to orbit to the right spot.

This, and both are much closer to Russia so they could deal with this easier and it wont cost as much. France could use a good conflict too and have their army put to the test again to show they still got it.

There's a pretty long term understanding in the world that the next time a nuke is used offensively, everybody is nuking everybody and the world ends.

Who told you that? Someone else said it earlier, A51 and A52 comes into play. We have countermeasures and orbital weapons beyond missiles
