That's not what's happening with transgender people. They don't "choose" to have gender dysphoria. I feel pretty confident from some of the stories I've heard from my trans friends that they wish they could just choose not to be transgender, as it would have saved them a considerable amount of abuse, but that's not a thing.

Trump made Republicans realize they don't have to hide their bigotry anymore as long as they double-down on policies that white trash Evangelicals love. Not that they were doing a great job of hiding it in the first place.
