I was in vancouver pretty much every day for the 2010 olympics. It was awesome.

Also been to LA and Calgary.

I live in Metro Atlanta but I don't think I've ever been to any of the Olympic stadiums. I'd have to check. I went to a concert once that may have been in one of them.

I saw the Olympic stadium in Athens and it's depressing as hell. A massive structure that is simply not used for anything anymore.

I also have been to Olympia where the OG games were held a long time ago. There's not much there either.

Lake Placid. Many times.
The Gold Standard. They hosted it twice, but never F'ed up the Village.
The facility that hosted 'The Miracle on Ice' is much smaller than you would imagine.

Seeing the nuclear reactors behind the sky jumps was jarring this year.

Also the owner of the business I work at competed in Judo in the 2000 Olympics.

Lake Placid. We rented a cabin for the weekend at the end of December one year. The lake was frozen solid, it was single digit temperatures and the nearby town was so depressing to look at.

The facilities may have been shut down for training...or because of The Holidays in your case.

And ya, Saranac Lake is often one of the coldest places in the lower 48 states.
It can really suck at times. Completely brutal.
