For most people in the West, this question has already been answered in the negative. Even with the existence of the legions in Britain, Gaul was never considered a serious threat by the Romans. However, the more we learn about Roman history and culture, the more fascinating this period of time becomes. It was relatively short (around two decades) when the Romans marched east and made their conquest of Gaul. So why was it, then, that a large number of people did consider this campaign important enough to write books on it - which we do have, if only in fragmentary form - the Gallia Histori-Caesar? And was it really that important? What would the Romans even have done with a fully armed and disciplined Gaul?

Interesting side note that I think is relevant to your topic: Some scholars think that the word Gaul was originally the name for all the Germanic tribes that surrounded the Rhine river in Europe, and that it was later applied to the area around the Loire river in France. Others believe that the word Gaul meant the Belgic tribes who lived on the middle Rhine in Europe, and that it was later applied to the Roman province of Belgica. To be honest, I have no idea. However, I do know that when the first Roman legions entered Gaul, they conquered a few places that were located on the Rhine and in northern France, and that in the next 200 years, Roman generals such as Julius Caesar and others conquered a few other places that were located in northern and central France. I also know that during this time period, some Roman generals who had conquered Germanic tribes and some Roman colonies in northern and central Europe and some Roman allies in eastern Europe.

Invade but not quite conquer

1 village would hold out despite being surroudned by 4 garrisons due to a magic potion brewed by an experienced druid.

A hero would rise up alongside his best friend (and their pet dog) to ensure that Gaul would always live on and never truly be defeated by Toutatis! The Gauls would never fear the Romans, the only thing they fear is that one day the sky may fall on their heads.

The name of this hero?

Albert Einstein

Gaul was resource rich and Rome needed land and resources. It's a no brainer.
