Two White men are facing criminal charges after a Black FedEx Express driver alleged that he was chased and shot at while delivering packages in Brookhaven, Mississippi.
When he called police to report the shooting, he says he was told by the dispatcher that they had just received a call about a suspicious person at the same address.
D'Monterrio Gibson, 24, told CNN by phone he was delivering packages to a home around 7 p.m. on January 24 when he saw a white pickup truck coming from the house behind it.
The truck started approaching Gibson and blowing the horn at him, Gibson said.
The van Gibson was driving was a Hertz rental van that had two large Hertz stickers on the back, Gibson said. Gibson's attorney, Carlos E. Moore, told CNN that Gibson was wearing a FedEx jacket, shirt and pants but the vehicle had no FedEx markings.
Gibson said he thought he was in the truck's way and so he tried to leave, but the truck swerved around him and tried to cut him off.

Driver even says he sees the similarities between this and the Ahmaud Arbery case. One of them even has the same damn name (Gregory). Wtf.

Gibson said one officer incorrectly repeated his statement back to him three or four times before finally getting it right. The second officer told Gibson he was going to play "devil's advocate" and asked Gibson, "Did you do anything to make them think you were suspicious?"

Also I don't know about FedEx but I've had a ton of stuff I've ordered online arrive in random ass rental vans and in the case of Amazon, personal vehicles.

Luckily it wasnt the police like when they executed that UPS driver that got hijacked

Yes, all the couriers use rental vehicles for various reasons, such as vehicles out due to maintenance. Especially now, with volume up by over 80% compared to 2020 averages, the fleets havent been bolstered to reflect that increase.

maybe they use them as emergency vehicles. like if the actual van is in the shop i guess. i guess some people would look at that as suspicious? i think it'd be better if they put some kind of fex ed logo or marking of some sort on the van.

If you are a minority you need to be carrying a weapon that you know how to use.

I've always thought it was stupid that they didn't provide some big logo magnets for stuff like that. Though I doubt that would have dissuaded the chucklefucks in this scenario.

Very normal, especially with more volumes of packages that need delivery more than ever.

Fedex fucked up. They should at the very least have big magnetic signs they can stick on the side of rented trucks. They sent this poor guy into hillbilly territory with a target on his back.

Any rational person agrees with this, so it's not worth discussing because we all are on the same page with this.

What is worth discussing is the responsibility on fedex's end for sending a guy out in an unacceptable state.

i had to get a 2nd replacement sent that arrived. those things cost 75$ (not including paying for the 2nd fastest shipping).

Delivery drivers should be armed imo. We live in the real world where bad shit happens. You have to be pragmatic about these things.

I just don't understand, if they turned themselves in then they admit to the crimes and if that's the case then is there even a reason why those two goons are alive today? Just execute them and be done with it. Fucking scum

Also, fedex are complete scum. I dont think it matters if the van was marked or not, but their treatment of the delivery driver after the incident is atrocious and whoever made those calls should be sent to prison as well

I remember that. Poor guy didn't stand a chance in that vehicle with it getting lit up like it was. It basically became his coffin. Hopefully they compensated his family for that.

If you do and do something that steps over the very thin line, regardless if it is justified the law will punish you, and if they punish oppressors, they and / or their cronies will be back for revenge, as if they have any right to do so. I never saw one of those unmarked vans doing deliveries until late last year when I was getting some books delivered. A random van pulled into my yard and a guy got out and yea I was immediately confused and suspcious until I saw they were carrying a package
