If you had even a remotely tough time in high school the show brings on a visceral sense of nostalgia. Cuts straight to the heart. Not even sure if nostalgia is the right word, though. Melancholy? I don't know, it just hits very very close to home, and reminds me of thoughts and feelings I had back then. In a good, but not so good, sorta way. Maybe it's hard to explain. It's a fairly standard teen drama, with the lavish excess and angst turned up to 11. The story is aggressively meh. Just a bunch of stuff happening to awful or uninteresting people. teen drama with fantasy situations made for the sense of drama. Music and the way it's filmed are great but the character motivations and everything else are reality TV tier and it's just hard to believe real people are doing these actions, for a show that's supposed to be "modern".
