I always wonder just how many animals are way more human like than we know. Or at least more aware and intelligent and emotionally connected to stuff.

Like that alligator who got shot in the head and the guy nursed it back to healthy and then it became like the alligator version of his outdoor cat.

The alligator totally remember and appreciated what the dude did for him. That's cool as shit.

I never get complacent around animals after our last cat*, who now lives with my parents in law.

When we go over, he tries to lull me into a false sense of security by being all give me pats, I want pats. I give him pats as he requests. Then he tries to ring bark my wrist with his teeth.

*we didnt give him up willingly, hes a very anxious cat and couldnt deal with a tiny human larva suddenly being in the house. Hes now much happier, he has a backyard now and two people who refuse to believe hes an asshole.

Also im not gonna mark em cause its a 40 year old book but I've read a ton of James Lee Burkes Dave robicheaux novels if not all of them now. But I just recently read the first one and man it was bad.

It mentions elephants in the grass which was a dudes dying words but while it does get brought up again several times as important its never explained. Also the main character kills two people basically in cold blood... like he has his reasons but its nuts he kills 3 people in the book and two of them are just revenge killings basically and one is a really iffy on duty kills (hes a cop). And sure he's briefly suspended but essentially its so absurd and clete is somehow supposed to be the asshole...

Way different from all his books I was familiar with. My perception of the character is entirely different now tbh.
