Was it all just fear mongering? Are people actually getting fined and arrested for using memes?

dear diary,

all i have left is this etch-a-sketch copy of a philosoraptor image macro from the early to mid 2000s, they've taken everything else. i cherish it, but not too much, for i fear excess shaking during my bouts of uncontrollable sobbing will wipe away my only reason to exist

a neighbor told me the memeshtapo are beginning the installation of the chips next week, supposedly altering brain function so that we become incapable of even recognizing memes, let alone remembering that they ever existed

a man once said that he would never give me up, never let me down, never run around and desert me, but it looks like i'm about to call that bluff

i think this will be my last entry

Nobody was arrested for using memes

They were arrested for hate speech or coordinated attacks which often involved memes

Ahhhh. I see. I just saw people being up in arms when it was going to be passed but I didn't really look at who was up in arms about it.

This is not accurate. The draconian copyright legislation--if enacted widely within the EU--would have curtailed freedom of speech, potentially including things like memes. It was foiled by the fact that it was so dumb that only like two countries actually implemented the law as instructed.
