Big change from the Tokyo Olympics that had a lot of hype

Winter olympics are always much less hype than the summer olympics

As I researched just how corrupt and disgusting the IOC actually is I just lost my taste for it. Not to mention how they ravage the areas they infest and leave a mess behind along with a huge bill.

I have no love for the IOC either but tbh. the huge bills they leave host countries behind is mostly their fault

Look at Brazil and how badly they mismanaged everything after the olympics were over

Beijing

That's another reason some people are mad about these specific Olympics

If you did know you probably wouldn't be hype...

Sometimes it's necessary to make people miserable, even if that means making yourself miserable in the process.

Sochi actually did something good with their setup. The Sochi Autodrom now runs around the Olympic stadium. Seems like a good use of the area (although the track is apparently not popular among F1 fans but at least the usage of the land is a positive).

I think the fact it's in China is part of the reason for the tepid hype. Wasn't there a major network that wasn't even going to send reporters there?

As for Tokyo, it was delayed which gave it some more hype plus people just generally get more excited for the summer games. Also we just had an Olympics last year.

Apparently they had to truck in a lot of snow for this Olympic games, which added fuel to the disdain for it. Bejing is a poor venue for a Winter Olympics.

I'm not a big Olympics fan and having them in China is even more reason not to watch. The IOC is a very corrupt organization.

I'll still watch the men's hockey but I don't think it starts for a while

Also I just looked at the rosters and apparently the Chinese team has mostly North Americans on it?

I recognize quite a few former players on the other teams, Eric Staal being the most notable by far but there's several others like Krejci and Bodker.

Given everything China has been up to the past 5 years, I refuse to watch them. The fucking circus they put on with Peng Shuai and the way the IOC is playing along with it is sickening.

Normally I might swallow my pride and just watch anyway because I genuinely enjoy them, but the fact we just had the summer Olympics like 6 months ago makes it so I'm really not jonesin' for them again like I normally would.

For those that hate it being hosted in China, I dont think the IOC had a choice because nobody else really wanted to host it IIRC

I had read something like that. China was seen as a last-ditch or something because...I want to say France withdrew their application.

nobody seems to want to host the olympics
