If you had to operate from one of those, which would you prefer

dunno about metropolis so voted new york
gotham seems too shitty, a bit like real life new york city although not that bad

Both Metropolis and Gotham are actually based on NYC. But Metropolis is inspired by the best parts of the city. Gotham is based on the worst aspects of it

I feel like criminals in Gotham are criminals because of how much it sucks there.

Marvel NYC is immediately out because the Punisher exists. If that's not enough, there are also the frequent alien invasions and shit like that.

In Gotham, you're almost certainly going to have to join one of the gangs. Either you end up working for a supervillain who's going to eventually murder you in a fit of pique or you work for a mob boss who will eventually go to war against a supervillain that will get you killed by a supervillain. And then if you do get caught by Batman, he is going to be the absolute dogshit out of you. And just in general, Gotham is a shithole. There's a reason Poison Ivy can always find an abandoned toxic waste dump to set up shop in.

In Metropolis, you have to deal with Superman. It'll be easier for him to catch you, but he's just going to crumple your gun and take you to jail. He's not going to beat the shit out of you because he doesn't have to. The supervillains are generally a little more reasonable than Gotham's. Much nicer place to live than Gotham. The only downside is that you're going to occasionally get invaded by the forces of Apokolips, but you're a superstitious cowardly villain which means you're likely to survive. And if you do get in trouble, Superman will probably save you.

Depends on how powerful I am and what those powers are. In general, you kould not pay me to even be a petty thief in a world where supers exist, if I'm just an ordinary guy. Either way, Gotham sucks no matter who you are, so not that.

Metropolis. Marvel NYC has a world ending disaster every week. And in Gotham you have Batman who beats the shit out of you and hangs you from a lamp post by your belt loop for littering. Meanwhile superman will show up, disarm you.l, then pick you up and fly you to jail while lecturing you on why bank robbery is wrong.

Metropolis, purely because Superman's just so squeaky clean he'd be like "oho villain I've caught you!"

So It's like "oh no! Curses, foiled, etc."

Then next week it's time to break out of wherever and get back to the villainy.

Gotham has too much competition. Metropolis would be the easiest. Just wait for the world-ending threat that happens every other week. Nobodys gonna care about some random thugs robbing a bank when Darkseids around or Lex Luthors doing his thing.

That's more a Gotham issue. Though only Belle Reave seems to be anything resembling a functional prison. Gotham has Arkham and Blackgate, when thenrlqriters remember there's a prison for sane people in Gotham too anyway, amd they are both awful at holding anyone. I recall reading there was a story where someone was going to break out of Arkham, so a different villain went "sounds fun" and broke out too just because. The prison El Chapo was in in Mexico was more secure than Arkham.

I dunno, what is that possibly fake saying about danger and opportunity being the same word?

All the crazy shit going in marvel nyc seems like a good chance to get your hands on some supernatural/super powered/extraterrestrial kit. So unless you already have crazy super powers...

The trick is to rob the bank while Lex Luthor is starting some shit in California so Superman is out of town.

Can Los Angeles be an option? You wouldnt have to deal with many heroes besides maybe The West Coast Avengers and theyre kind of a joke

Depending on the time frame, you'd have to work for the Pride who also aren't great to work for.

Easily Metropolis.

Marvel has far too many twisted "anti heroes" that will leave you beyond crippled in any encounter, if not dead.

Batman will leave you permanently crippled, even if how shit the city is forces you into being a criminal.

Metropolis will just see you in jail with Superman most likely leaving you unharmed.

Justice league exists in both Batmans and Supermans stories.

Which means there no shortage of superhero who will make your day a misery.

Oddly that tips the scale in favor of Gotham, since for some reason no one but Batman and the Bat Family work in Gotham.

Imagine picking marvel knowing Punisher kills people.
