I give it a 5/10.

It doesn't come close to touch the previous games. I mean NO WHERE close. I couldn't relate to any of the characters. The music isn't rememberable. Really easy to get all 108 characters as most characters are auto recruited through storyline. They fucked up the simple battle system hardcore as you can really control 3 units AND there's chant time for using magic AND the fights are SUPER LONG. They prioritize graphics and gave less effort in every category. I found no interesting Unite attack.

I did like the plot, though. Cultures clash from different countries and regions and of course someone is manipulating their aggression. Making Luc the new baddie is interesting. The cause of his turn looks like it's a small scheme for something bigger. I did like the new skill system as well but making magic skills and battle skills completely learnable from different places was a pain in the ass. I like the war fights better than the previous games.

Kinda weird that no returning characters made any commentary about Luc, though. Not that I found at least.

Shall I play Suikoden 4 next?

If I'm remembering right the Sukoden 4 had a higher battle encounter rate, and the worst battle system. Not a good combo. The plot itself was lacking too.

Graphics and battle already looks better than 3

Yeah, 3 ain't too good. If I'm being nice, I'd give it a 6/10 since I liked the overall plot and some of the character stories, but it was a massive letdown coming from suikoden ii.

4 is definitely worse, and the worst of the 5 mainline games. It's hard to describe why without getting super detailed, but there is very little to like about the game. You should still pay it though if you have any interest in playing suikoden tactics since the story takes place around the same time and features characters from 4.

Suikoden V is excellent. A return to its roots and does basically everything right. Story and characters aren't exactly ii levels of good, but it's up there. If you need a good game to play after 3 then you could definitely skip 4 and play this one instead.

I liked 4 but it is basically objectively the weakest in the series. Team of 4 instead of 6, easiest and most boring war battles, mediocre cast of characters. Too much time sailing.

5 went back to full teams of 6. Had cool main characters, good plot, cool headquarters.
