My local one is still booming and is always packed, but it still doesn't hit like it used to.

They recently opened the American dream mall and it has areas designed specifically for social media photography if that not popular you could shave my ass and call me sweet cheeks

A bunch of them are booming in my city. Especially the ones that were already considered more "upscale" or in actual suburb areas. I guess it completely depends on where you live.

It also has a theme park and a water park.

The ones that do survive will just become indoor entertainment complexes.

Eh. I lost the love for them after my teen years. Haven't had the urge to go in a long time. The rare times I go to mine are just to the Barnes and Noble that you can get to without going in the mall proper. Only once in a long time did I ever walk around and go to other stores. 95% of the stores I'd go to have been long gone like FYE and even Radio Shack. Ours was never spectacular like many out there.

Just glad those annoying cell phone kiosks with sales people working at them went away.

"Hey, what kind of cell phone do you got?"

"Do you want to upgrade?"

The one in Raleigh (Crabtree) is still going.

Anyway most arcades haven't been the same since the early 90s.

In the 80s we had The Gold Mine.

I think these are the only pics that exist.

Ours was extremely dark inside and had the black light carpet.

Ashtrays and cigarette burns on the cabinets and carpet.

Eye level smoke on some days.

I miss when almost every mall had a cool arcade inside. Remember visiting relatives in a western MN town of like 11,000 when I was 5 or so and playing House of the Dead 2 before going to a movie with my parents at the theater literally across the hallway. Better days

Hmmm, I don't really miss malls themselves, but I more miss the times of being in middle school/high school and hanging out with my buds at one or doing a mall date with one of my gfs.

Not in the slightest. The only stores I ever cared about were game stores and book stores. I don't really miss the former, but I do sort of miss book stores.

Sometimes, I feel a little nostalgic for malls. Walking around the shops, looking for Xmas gifts, eating at the food court, going to the arcade, etc.

I don't care.

Anytime I go to a mall it's for a specific reason. I get what I came for and then leave. I used to like browsing music stores when I was younger, but they're not around anymore.

Going to the mall just for the sake of it or to hang out always seemed stupid to me.

The decor they have at malls during the holiday season is absolutely dismal nowadays - why doesnt anything have color anymore?!??

I just miss the food court. American suburbs suck for trying to find something small and cheap, but I could always depend on the food court to get something like a big pretzel.

I did. But now I am totally jaded. Nothing, not even a fleeting sense of nostalgia can make me happy. So no, I no longer miss it.
