I think that'd need some trained coordination to have any effect on the shooter. How many kids out of a random 30 can throw a Puck accurately and hard in that situation from a tough angle with 29 others trying to do the same?

Granted, a good one or two would probably disrupt the shooter's plan. Bullets are a lot faster than thrown pucks, though.

And if the classroom is either in the middle of the building with no windows, or on the second floor, or in the basement? Not every classroom is on the ground floor with a window that can be easily opened, and VERY few classrooms in America have multiple doors to go in and out of.

And if you're proposing that they just run out into the hallway, while there is an active shooter in the building, then you're proposing that those kids make themselves easier to shoot.

Just teach them to run away is really dumb. Running away is not going to work in every situation, and people having no idea what to do and just giving up when running fails has gotten a lot of people killed because a lot of active shooters arent interested in hostages

we have had decades of dealing with this sort of shit and tinkering with what works to save the most people and the flow of how people should react is-

  1. Flee if at all possible
  2. If fleeing fails, secure an area as well as you can. Hide, lock security measures, barricade entrances
  3. If the above two both fail and you have no other option, defend yourself as violently as possible. Assume you will be killed if you do not incapacitate the attacker
if a shooter has successfully gotten into a classroom like that and is now blocking what is often the only entrance and exit, the first two steps have failed. Its better to have people, even kids, in a mindset where they can at least attempt the third
