I played 2, did not play 1, am vaguely aware of a book series, and saw two episodes of the show.

As such, I am clearly an expert and this will be a smooth process for everyone involved.

I played through the game, but I missed out on Gwent, which people say you should apparently immerse yourself in

Evidently all is not going very well for Fantasy Poland.

Even their interdimensional borders get no respect.

There's a little questionnaire early in the game about some events from 2, but I think that's about it as far as previous knowledge of the series goes.

I'm not entirely sure where in the timeline I am with this tutorial.

Yenefer is here lounging around in lingerie yet I'm fairly sure I'm still hunting her in the story.

Found Ciri, beat her in a race, she had a "you little shit" moment with whoever this guy is, and I'm doing the combat tutorial.

I have officially lost my first game of Gwent.

Couldn't get the game to let me pass so I sank every card in my hand on the field during round 1.

You'll eventually learn to gwent properly. There are a few cards that are missable, but a lot can be won through just playing opponents or buying 'em from innkeeps.

Make sure you swim around a bit and check under bridges, etc. You can find chests that contain oil/decoction recipes and stuff.

That guy in Vizima? He's pretty hard to beat with the starting deck you're given, so it's not too big a deal if you lost. You can come back and challenge him again later.

Anyway, did the "corpse in a well" quest, kicked the ghost's ASS.

Didn't bother with oil or potion as is my usual path, just placed some Wyvern traps or whatever that sign is.

yea, the potions are really helpful in this game, from my experience.

fights can go from being frustrating to engaging, IMO.

Bah.

I played Witcher 2 without putting a single point in Alchemy.

I think, not quite sure if it was that extreme but I did very little brewing.

iirc, it's a lot better in Witcher 3, where you only have to concoct the oils and potions once, and as long as you have some kinda alcohol in your inventory (I think), all of your oils/potions are restocked whenever you rest.
