They've been on a roll. Resident Evil 8 is pretty much a perfect follow up from RE7. The Remakes are also great. RE3 could have been better but the original was the same and it's still overall good.

It feels like they're really in the right rhythm. I think a potential downside is that I really understand the logic of these games now. So the last couple of stalker type enemies have been the least scary and intimidating. But that's overall pretty minor.

It probably helps that these games are big sellers but also re-use content between each other. A lot of RE8 assets will be used for the RE4 Remake for example. So they can also get out new releases rather quickly compared to other franchises.

RE is in a good place yes but never forget how bad it can get if stupid shit like RE 6, ORC, and Umbrella Corps is made.

Yeah...RE8 was good but not better than 4 or 7 as in surpassing them on what they did best.

Stronger story
Improved controls
can move while aiming
Better/faster menus/loading
Not pointlessly long to the point of dragging
Better map design than just a series of corridors
Escort quests and Ashley sequences.

4 is beloved for its graphics which were ahead of the times on release but there's a lot of bad game design in it

if it was released for the first time today, it would be pretty panned

Oh yeah I got confused when I had the slip for that in my case because I hadn't heard anyone talk about it. Then i looked it up and found out that it hasn't even released yet lol.

Multiplayer is definitely something Capcom wants but can't quite figure out.

Not even slightly. 7 is much better.

Outside of being scarier, Jack Baker and having VR support I can't think of anything else that RE7 did better.

Two of those three things are incredibly important factors.

I don't feel that 8 was better in any way that mattered.
