Is that just because everyone associates them exclusively with HP now?

WoW still does wands even though all caster weapons are just glorified stat sticks.

Magic wands are sorta lame as a vehicle for magic. I think that's kind of a leftover from an older era of fairy tales and "sources of power," whereas nowadays people prefer magical characters to have magic from within their bodies, or at least cast with their own hands.

"Haha, I've taken your wand!" shouldn't be enough to depower or otherwise nerf a strong wizard, imo. That was honestly one of the things I really hated about Harry Potter. The wand aspect sucked.

Wandless magic did exist in Harry Potter, but it was more difficult and wands were used to channel magic and make spells easier to cast, but a disarmed wizard isnt entirely defenseless if they're skilled enough.

Honestly I didn't make it far enough into the series to learn this, but it still sounds lame that taking their wand weakens them at all.

Wands are cool, but I kinda prefer magic tomes. Makes the user seem erudite and learned.

There's also staves, rods, rings, talismans etc etc

In a certain cartoon, wands are considered "training wheels" for mages. If you have one is because your are learning magic and are not a good wizard yet.
