TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) A bill pushed by Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis that would prohibit public schools and private businesses from making white people feel discomfort when they teach students or train employees about discrimination in the nations past received its first approval Tuesday.
The Senate Education Committee approved the bill that takes aim at critical race theory though it doesnt mention it explicitly on party lines, with Republicans in favor and Democrats opposed.
Democrats argued the bill isnt needed, would lead to frivolous lawsuits and said it would amount to censorship in schools. They asked, without success, for real-life examples of teachers or businesses telling students or employees that they are racist because of their race.
This bills not for Blacks, this bill was not for any other race. This was directed to make whites not feel bad about what happened years ago, said state Sen. Shevrin Jones, who is Black. At no point did anyone say white people should be held responsible for what happened, but what I would ask my white counterparts is, are you an enabler of what happened or are you going to say we must talk about history?

Fascinated by conservatives' fixation on not being made to feel bad, or guilty, or whatever. It's always (at least on a surface level) at the core of this stuff. I don't know exactly what to make of it. The end game is of course peeling back civil rights, voting rights etc, but is there more to it? Some kind of weird complex or existential guilt or something?

This is actually pretty brilliant. They're outright grooming people to be sociopaths.

There are literally tens of millions of people who believe schools tell white children that they are all racist oppressors, while telling all minorities that everything is the fault of white people.

Not because there is substantial proof of such a thing, but because, theoretically, that would be bad. And also because they are NPCs who will automatically start parroting whatever latest talking points were fed to them by their favorite host/influencer.

It's scary how brainwashed people are these days. I've never heard anyone tell me they were triggered and needed a safe space, or that I was mansplaining, or that they identified as an attack helicopter, but man did I hear tons of people complaining about it. And curiously, all with the same basic wording.

Not all white people have white fragility but only white people are capable of white fragility. Big difference.

This is part of the bullshit. In order to accept that racism is a problem, you must accept that white people are frail.

That's antithetical. It's bigoted.

It also means that the price of being a good person, if you're white, is to be a doormat. You have to accept that you're frail, privileged, culpable, etc. I hate racism. Not as a penitent white dude who's sorry for his ancestors or his inherence, but as a decent human fucking being.

But when you say that the only way to fight racism is to hate yourself or feel sorry for being a part of the "bad" group, you know damn well you are trying to drive people away from the cause.

Shit like this is designed to encourage white people to go conservative. It's designed to allow people to say, "Look at these bigoted white folks doing what they've always done." It's designed to keep a near-equal number on both sides of the political dividing line.

If the left wanted to win the political war, they could do so with ease. The politicians don't want to. They profit from conflict They feed off of distractions. They're not as bad as the people on the opposite side who actively encourage bigotry, but it all amounts to creating a perpetual cycle of conflict among people who should be working together to fight bigotry.

It's literally in the name "white fragility." In calling it white fragility, they're stating that it's an inherent part of whiteness. They could call it bigoted fragility, privileged fragility, enfranchised fragility, fascist fragility, or any other number of terms. They chose a title which ties it to an ethnic group because they know a person's natural reaction is to get emotional when they've been insulted.

Of all the topics to argue white fragility doesn't exist, this is definitely not the one. The law specifically says making white people uncomfortable.

You can't seriously tell me that the term white fragility doesn't generalize white people. Would you be okay with terms like "Arab aloofness," "female spite," "Black jealousy," or "homosexual greed"?

Many times on this board, I've denounced bigotry.

I denounce bigoted terminology no matter who it's pointed at. I was mad at the Washington Football team for using a racial slur as it's name. I was mad at Hollywood for whitewashing characters. When I read about police committing murder with racism as a motive, I think things that would get me warned on this site and possibly placed on a watchlist.

I still have a little irritation left in reserve left for when my ethnic group is used as a synonym for frailty. I know I'm in a privileged position and, no, I wouldn't trade shoes with someone who has to face systemic racism. But that doesn't mean I'm okay with being insulted over things I didn't do. And I'm even less okay with people playing games which are meant to generate conflict while putting on a faade of opposing it.
