If he isn't alive, it'd be nice to discover more logs that confirm he met an awful end as a result of an arrogant miscalculation.

How could the antagonist be anyone other than Ted Faro?

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

He was the guy who was single-handedly responsible for the extinction of all life on earth, right down to single-cell organisms, by creating unhackable, self-replicating warbots that could take control of other machines and consume organic material for fuel.

Later on, he murders the people who managed to salvage a tiny sliver of hope from his fuck-up and lobotomizes the AI function that was meant to teach humanity its history and skills which is why all of the current humans are primitive tribals. And because they are tribals who don't understand what's going on, they hunt the machines that are meant to be terraforming the earth. That in turned pissed off the AI function responsible for making them which makes it retaliate by weaponizing its current machines and then building brand new machines with the sole purpose of killing people.

One tribe called the Carja witnessed the increased hostility of the machines and started abducting people to sacrifice to their sun god, leading to a huge war between the tribes. Even after being defeated, one faction still loyal to the insane king discovers an AI function who helps them awaken the original Faro machines, once again threatening the extinction of all life on earth.

Basically, Ted Faro isn't just responsible for the extinction of all life on earth, he's also responsible for all of the current conflicts and deaths now that the world has mostly recovered.

I am a bit conflicted about keeping him alive. On one hand yes it would be satisfying killing him.

But on the other hand having him being long dead but the world still feels the consequences of his actions almost makes him feel even more of a bastard and feels relevant to many hugely successful billionaires of today who are destroying the planet over their ego and greed.

Either way I'm sure we'll actually see a bit more of him.

Keeping him alive so we can enact an infinitesimally small act of karma is cowardly writing. At best there should be audiologs about how he lived the rest of his life full of peace, and his death even more peaceful.

I doubt he'll be the main antagonist or villain or anything like that. He was never an evil genius, just a greedy bumbling idiot. He never meant to doom the planet or the revival project. He just wanted more money from all sides in the past without realizing the impact it would have and then later thought he knew what was best without actually understanding the plan for the future.

I imagine there'll be some new entity with its own ambitions for the new world, or perhaps a new stooge being played by Hades or what have you.

No, it was pretty transparently an attempt to stop people from learning he was responsible.

My theory on who'll be the antagonist in the sequel (or at least a future game) are a space colony. The Far Zenith group and their leader are given a fair bit of fleshing out in some dialogue and we only have a report that their Odyssey spaceflight failed.

Expected the dudebro engineer with rape vibes but clearly he was already dead.

Come to think of it, maybe he was supposed to be James Franco or something.

Meh, I always took it as an impulsive move coming from a place of regret. Or like trying to stop history from repeating itself, as if their history would inevitably result in another Ted Faro, so only a clean slate could prevent it.

Erasing all of human history just to save face for people who wouldn't exist until eons after his death seems like a dumb move even for Faro.
