30 motherfucking years I've enjoyed bananas with no problem.

Had one this morning and it tasted a little spicy, which is apparently a sign that you're allergic.

You might want to get tested then because people with banana allergies are usually allergic to latex as well. Or rather, if you become allergic to latex, you also develop an allergy to bananas.

Bananas were my favorite fruit my entire life. Then randomly one day when I was 23, I ate a banana an laid down for a nap. About 30 minutes later I woke up with my entire body itchy, face swollen, slightly hard to breathe. Drove the two minutes to my mom's (nurse).

"Mom what the fuck is this?"

Now I can't eat bananas. Or kiwi. In fact most fruit gives me a little bit of some weird swelling and mouth pain.

Fuck.

I also heard this, but I dont have outbreaks for latex gloves and other latex products.

If this has always been like that for you I would not worry. If it is a recent development then it is probably a problem.

Continued exposure can make it worse since it's an allergy you develop rather than one you're born with.

Ugh, that sucks.

I lost the ability to eat (raw) apples and a few other things when I was in highschool. Apparently had something to do with hayfever. Sigh, this is pain

I'm severely allergic to latex (balloons can be deadly over time, and finding random rubber bands is delightful), but am merely sensitive to bananas and pineapple. I've tried talking my doctor into giving me an allergy panel for years so that I can feel more comfortable trying new foods, but so far no dice.

Do be on the lookout for developing new allergies. Some allergies--like latex--can get worse each time you are exposed, and can expand to cover other things too.

Oh, is there a reason they won't give you an allergy panel? I don't know much about these kinds of things, but it seems like an innocuous enough test.

I'm allergic to them but I think it's because of oral allergy syndrome, not a true allergy. If they're not super ripe, like at least 50/50 brown and yellow, my tongue and throat get a bit itchy but it never develops past that. If they're ripe enough, I have no problems at all, other than having to wait days for those sweet, sweet nanners.

Sounds pretty much exactly like me. I've at least been told cooked is fine. Banana yogurt, thankfully, is fine. My wife made me a banana cream pie that made my lips swell a bit but I was otherwise okay. Aside from the yogurt though, I've made the choice not to fuck around.
